Cold northerly airstream. temp about 2C at lunchtime dropping back below freezing after 3pm. ocassional snow showers. Excellent visibility.
:: Snow Conditions & Info
Thin cover of snow on a grassy base (well it is Yad Moss!). Small drifts just sufficient to be bashed out and create some good, though confined skiing.

Two or three runs complete. We also opened on Sunday 24th March when if anything the surface had improved slightly and the freezing level was a little lower.

Thanks to the deep low pressure which flooded most of Northern England yesterday, Yad Moss luckily was just below freezing and got a great dump of snow. Arrived 9.30 and got the kite out for a few runs before the tow was de-iced.

Initially there was some great little wind blown powder stashes in the gullies and behind snow fences, which alone warranted a 4 on the conditions rating. But the piste basher and other people soon took the 'icing of the cake'. As the day went on the temp crept slowly up above freezing making for eventually sticky conditions. Viz stayed fine all day, with a southerly wind.

Great day out on the Northern Pennines and many thanks to all the volunteers who keep these places going and seem to spend all the good days shovelling snow and hitting pylons with hammers.
:: Snow Conditions & Info
From wind blown powder to breakable frozen 'stuff' at first. Softened as the day went on.

Strong south easterly (downslope) winds and cold, and below freezing all day. Freezing level just below 600m.

Reasonable visibility in the morning poor later on as the mild air began to mix.

Sleet by the end of the day, but ground and surfaces still frozen.
:: Snow Conditions & Info
Snow cover was a bit thin and was substantially topped up by new snow falling from the south this morning.

The runs though thin were very fast and pleasantly quiet to ski on. As ever at Yad Moss, no rocks but the surface undulations make for some tricky, technical conditions !
:: Riders
Perhaps 50 skiers and boarders and a couple of telemarkers.

Mist, highwinds and snowflurries.

A day for the dedicated when even the Yad Moss piste wizards couldn't do anything about the weather. Strong winds from the east were blowing most snow straight down and off the slope. More a refresher course in sedge hopping than a days skiing - made all the more difficult because it was my first day this season.

Broken & Patchy. Very Limited Terrain.

:: Weather Conditions
Mist and drizzle first thing. Wind zero knots picking up westerly in the afternoon. Temp around 2 degrees. Freezing level just above 3000'.
:: Snow Conditions & Info
Disappointingly poor. 80% snow 20% grass. However the grass skied very well although too slow really for snow boards !

Most runs broken despite some moderate drifts. Two inches of snow on Saturday night helped. B6277 not ploughed overnight but just passable at 9: 15am.

Despite poor conditions everyone seemed to be having at least some fun. Especially when the sun came out in the afternoon.
