A brighter day with better overhead on Wednesday, though snow showers were coming in with a bit more frequency towards the end of the day. Heavy driving sleet in the carpark after dusk, meant plenty snow was coming down up the mountain.
Tuesday's softening of the snow pack reversed through the morning as the FL came down. Mid mountain the snow had a nice phase as it began to crunch up, but the top became rather hard packed quite quickly. Main Basin though firmed up without getting as icy as Monday with gripper snow to skiers left.
There is a good base on most of the main runs, the repeated freeze/thaw cycles mean it's very dense and well consolidated, which means the base is even more robust than it looks and makes the depth even more impressive. There's a lot to happen weatherwise before spring arrives, but the foundations are in place to build a classic spring season on the West Coast if the weather behaves itself going forward.
Many a year it pays to not put the planks away when spring officially arrives for in Scotland Spring is often King. The mid-winter hard packed base can be March and April's glorious granular spring snow.
More fresh snow fell during Thursday but high winds prevented access. A stormy weekend forecast, check the very latest official reports in the mornings if you can.
