Nevis is offering it's full on mountain vertical from the Summit back to the Top of the Gondola and foot of the Quad, though on Thursday the strong NW winds kept the Summit and Quad off.
Variable temperatures and heavy precipitation meant variable surface conditions. Some firm packed nice grippy snow, areas of harder pack, windblown fresh and machine groomed packed powder on Thursday. A bit of exploring was rewarded with some great turns on runs few ventured too.
Goose Gully was generally in decent shape with pockets of windblown fresh. There is a good base for early January, though not back to pre Christmas levels, many a season we'd kill to have this much snow right after new year in the West.
There is plenty for all ability levels on the front of the mountain, with good nursery areas at the Top of the Gondola.
The Back Coire will need to be assessed for snow stability if wind permits lift access on Friday. Given the wind direction there has been extensive loading of the backs, with a large avalanche in Coire an Lochan noted.
