The clag that stubbornly refused to shift at Glenshee threatened to spill over the Plateau edge but never quite made it and for the most part it was a glorious day on CairnGorm on Wednesday, it was forecast to have the best of overhead, but it turned out even better than forecast with much of the hill enjoying deep winter sunshine, though occasionally the mist engulfed the Top Basin.
On the slopes all runs to the Cas Carpark are complete so full top to bottom riding and all 11 of the available lifts were open Wed and scheduled Thursday. Snow remained firm in the Top Basin, softening just a little below.
Lower mountain the snow was loose and granular, pretty much spring snow on the Daylodge Run giving good riding for intermediates up, with the least queue. The DLP can certainly shift people!
The Daylodge Glades were horrific early doors, but suddenly the snow morphed into something much sweeter and this area give some fun for more advanced riders - though you do have to pick your lines carefully not to take a dead end! Some big drifts and windlips to play on here too.
Ciste Gully opened in the afternoon, but East Wall area was closed due to ice from the freezing rain which didn't soften. White Lady was in fantastic nick with loose soft snow on the firm base, almost spring like snow.
