Biathlon Way - Short Cut - Leids Leap - Deer Track - Range Way - Biathlon Way.
:: Weather Conditions
Clear skies, moderate breeze when not sheltered by trees. Entire route below zero, no signs anywhere of thawing.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Adequate snow cover to ski the entire route. A couple of thin spots on wind-exposed bits, but otherwise the tracks were covered with several inches of untouched powder, with much deeper drifts.

Machine-cut tracks just about visible under the new snow in some places.

Downhill part of Leids Leap had huge vehicle tracks in it, making it un-ski-able for us novice cross-countriers. Had we had the time we would have taken our telemark gear back out and done the route in reverse: the powder in Leids Leap looked particularly tempting.

Haute Route, Return via Shortcut
:: Weather Conditions
Windy, Cloudy, some light rain. Temp rising as we left at about 2.30pm although wind chill kept the ambient temp below freezing.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Good base in most areas. Fresh snow over Sat/Sunday has filled in some of the patchy areas although thay are still thin with rocks/gravel visible in these sections. 95% of the trail was skiable though.
