Patience paid off for those who outlasted the wind this morning at Glencoe, with a rare pre Christmas start to the snowsports season with lift served riding on the Plateau off the Plateau Poma.
Sadly the wind didn't allow the Cliffhanger to open, but quite a few hiked further up the mountain to get first runs of the season on the mid and upper mountain.
Plateau Poma uptrack is mostly well filled, almost to the top of the fences in places so hopefully it will survive Sunday's mild snap.
The Mid Mountain runs have collected the most snow over the various storm cycles because of the direction and strength of the wind. The gully on Old Mugs Alley and the stream on Mugs Alley are all well filled, with deep snow in the stream gully at the bottom of Mugs Alley. Thrombosis and skiers left of the gully down the High Road already have pretty impressive accumulations for pre Christmas.
No uplift on Sunday due to the forecast for heavy rain as well as severe gales. Conditions will be assessed on Monday, current forecasts suggest a fairly wild day, but crucially a colder one with more snow fall. Keep an eye on the webcams and forecasts for Tuesday and Christmas Eve, things looking a bit more promising in tonights forecast model output.
