Point Five Gully

Grade V
:: Weather Conditions
Blue sky inversion. Freezing between 3000 - 4000 above which roasting hot. Cloud sea around the Ben with only the Northern Highlands visible
:: Climbing Conditions
All main pitches in generally good condition although a bit chopped from high traffic and a touch sugary in the chimney pitch. Top pitches slightly harder than usua.

Elsewhere all the main gullies in condition although Orion looking thin lower down and the Minus face stripped out. Indicator wall area in good but thin condition, Smiths in good nick and Hadrians very fat.
Tower ridge in perfect condition

Orion Direct

Grade V
:: Weather Conditions
Overcast and heavy snow on and off. Freezing circa 900m but dropping during the day with new snow lying at the CIC hut when we passed on the way down
:: Climbing Conditions
Lots of ice has survived the thaw and for routes like Orion the conditions are now improving rapidly. Great for climbing but not so good for gear with all the belays on ice gear bar the second slab rib and the exit chimney.
Zero, Point Five, Minus 2 and Minus 1 all looked in good nic especially with the lowering freezing level freezing up what was soft ice lower down.

Tower Ridge

Grade III
:: Weather Conditions
Blue sky until 3 pm when the wind rose and some cloude appeared as the next front approached
:: Climbing Conditions
Several inches of fresh windblown powder on top of a reasonable semi consolidated base. Lots of icing filling all the cracks although the main problem was the sheer quantity of new snow which made for exceptionally hard going especially on several normally straigtforward sections. The filled in cave section was particularly interesting !
Several other parties out on various easy lines and Point Five already well filled with ice and almost certainly doable next week assuming things settle down again
